Vieja Valley Mission Statement
We provide a learning-oriented, safe environment for children of all ages. In doing so, our mission is to develop in children the knowledge, skills and attitudes to instill a lifelong love of learning and to become productive and contributing individuals in a changing society.
Measure J Bond
The Hope Elementary School District Planning and Construction Management oversees new construction and modernization of all district facilities. The department is responsible for the district’s short and long-term facility needs, including enrollment and staffing projections to identify facility needs.
Through careful planning and support from the community, Hope Elementary School District has prepared well to accommodate the current needs of our students, staff, and community. In March 2020, the Hope School District community voters passed Measure J. This $47.4 million bond will provide funding for the modernization of our facilities, including new construction at Hope Elementary School, Monte Vista Elementary School, and Vieja Valley Elementary School.
The first series of $12 million was sold in May 2020, received in June 2020, and deposited in Fund 22 (Bonds). The district must spend 85% of those proceeds within three years. Staff predicts all $47.4 million proceeds will be spent by 2025. Closing out the bond program requirements by June 2026.

Mr. St. Peter encourages our school community to model after the insects we appreciate and value = bees. What's New at VV?
- Día de los Muertos is coming to Vieja Valley in class and in our Multipurpose room the week of Oct 28th!
-
What is it? The Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos), is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration.
A blend of Mesoamerican ritual, European religion and Spanish culture, the holiday is celebrated each year from October 31-November 2. While October 31 is Halloween, November 1-2 is All Souls Day or the Day of the Dead. According to tradition, the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31 and the spirits of children can rejoin their families for 24 hours. The spirits of adults can do the same on November 2.
-
Why at VV? Many of our families and staff celebrate this at home and it is a great way for our community to learn important traditions and different cultural practices together!
-
How can I help celebrate? Starting on Monday - students can bring in pictures to place on the offrenda (alter) to remember those that have passed. Also, there may be an offrenda made in classrooms so check with your child's teacher!
- Want to support our fourth graders in their quest to get warm socks to locals in need? Look no further...because it's SOCK-TOBER at VV! We will be collecting ADULT socks all month and have a few fun silly-sock days to celebrate our love of warm feet. Check the flyers around school for more info.
- Work was completed with our bond money! All classrooms have updated windows with retractable blinds, heating and cooling units, and new roofs. Thanks for being patient these past two years.
- Does your child speak more than one language? Our ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) would LOVE to help you become more involved here at school and find out how you can support your student and others who are multilingual! The first ELAC meeting was a District meeting with our two other schools (Hope and Monte Vista) at Hope School Elementary. Our VV site meeting will happen soon!
Update from ELAC

Our February meeting was very informative as we discussed upcoming testing for our children. Here are the notes from the meeting (February Meeting Notes).
Our annual Tamale Sale is over! It ran ONLINE from Friday, December 1st through Friday, December 8th. The money generated will be used to support VV students and further ELAC goals for community building!

VV Character Building
This week, Joy the Puppet and Ms. L taught us all about RESPONSIBILITY! Students learned that taking responsibility for our actions and words will build trust, increase our time management skills and self-worth, and make us accountable. October and November are going to be the time this year when we really try to "catch" students being responsible in class, on the playground, and with friends. Here's to a great way to start "BEE"coming amazing learners in life!
