Measure J Bond

The Hope Elementary School District Planning and Construction Management oversees new construction and modernization of all district facilities. The department is responsible for the district’s short and long-term facility needs, including enrollment and staffing projections to identify facility needs.

Through careful planning and support from the community, Hope Elementary School District has prepared well to accommodate the current needs of our students, staff, and community.  In March 2020, the Hope School District community voters passed Measure J. This $47.4 million bond will provide funding for the modernization of our facilities, including new construction at Hope Elementary School, Monte Vista Elementary School, and Vieja Valley Elementary School.

The first series of $12 million was sold in May 2020, received in June 2020, and deposited in Fund 22 (Bonds). The district must spend 85% of those proceeds within three years. Staff predicts all $47.4 million proceeds will be spent by 2025. Closing out the bond program requirements by June 2026.

Mr. St. Peter encourages our school community to model after the insects we appreciate and value = bees. What's New at VV?
What's new at VV?
  • Work is just about completed with our bond money! All classrooms have updated windows, heating and cooling units, and new roofs. All that is left is window coverings which should arrive in the next few weeks. Thanks for everyone's patience - we will really be happy to have cool rooms (and window coverings for emergencies) to help us learn in this fall.
  • On June 6, VV celebrated "Super Awesome Hair Day" and Carnival! The whole school got to play games, jump in bounce houses, eat popcorn and popsicles, and get faces painted - FOR FREE! Thanks to our PTA and Ms. Birkley/Ms. Aragon for coordinating such a fun day for us all.
  • The Alumni Class of 2018 met at the playground in May to rekindle friendships and see their former VV teachers! Click here to see photos and the smiles shared.
  • Some incredible fourth grade students have begun the "Clean & Green Club" and received an award as HEROS from Explore Ecology! Founded by student Alaina Galbraith, the club has promoted sustainability on campus and beyond. They are currently coordinating a school wide beach clean, a sustainability focused school wide assembly, and have petitioned the Hope District to transition to reusable utensils in the cafeteria to avoid single use plastic in the landfill.
  • Our Gala was a blast and was able to raise more money than even anticipated! Thank you to the generous families for their donations and support. Also, BIG THANKS to the Gala Committee for organizing the event and making it such a huge success!

VV Character Building
VV5

We ended the 2023/2024 school year learning about Honesty. This trait is not as easy as we'd like to think it is in practice! Joy the Puppet and Ms. L made a video (watch it here) that taught us that even though we are to be truthful, we also need to carry kindness with us as we do it! VV is a great place to practice honesty and learn kindness as we build trust. Thanks to everyone for a great year practicing the VV5: respect, kindness, responsibility, cooperation, and honesty!
